About Us

The ICU Emeriti Association (IEA) is a voluntary, dues-paying association that represents the emeriti in the academic  community of International Christian University (ICU), Tokyo. The association seeks to facilitate emeriti professors to remain actively engaged with the university’s mission.

What is a Professor Emeritus?

Professor Emeritus is an academic honour found in colleges and universities worldwide. It is the final recognition of a person’s prestigious career as a scholar and university citizen.

The Role of Professor Emeritus at ICU

ICU welcomes Professors Emeriti as members of the ICU academic community. They have experience as educators, researchers, and administrators who have made contributions in their scholarly specialities as well as having served in important roles in managing the university. They are important collaborators who are available to the university community in achieving its goal of being the university of tomorrow.

The Mission

The mission of the ICU Emeriti Association is to strengthen the ideal of ICU as a community that includes students, faculty, staff, and the emeriti. Many ICU emeriti remain active as scholars and advocates after their retirement from ICU and seek to remain partners in realizing the joint goal of ICU and the JICUF to nurture global citizens who can contribute to the well-being of humanity.

Diversity

The ICU Emeriti Association has members from across the globe who have facilitated ICU’s mission and continue to do so.

Activities

The Association will sponsor academic and social events, including an ICU Emeriti Colloquium that students, faculty and staff can attend. The goal is to provide a forum for exchange between Emeriti and the entire ICU community. The inaugural Colloquium will be held in Autumn 2024.
